Synopsis

In 'Desperately Seeking Susan', bored suburban housewife Roberta Glass becomes fascinated with a woman she only knows about by reading messages to and from her in the personals section of the newspaper. This fascination leads to her being mistaken for the woman when she decides to dress like her.

Why Watch It
Madonna's electric screen debut steals every scene as a downtown drifter, anchoring this scrappy '80s comedy that thrives on mistaken identity chaos and genuine affection for its characters. Seidelman captures the collision between suburban ennui and bohemian freedom with style and humor that still sparkles, while the film's visual energy and Rosanna Arquette's earnest performance make the implausible premise feel oddly touching.
