Synopsis

District 9 is a 2009 science fiction thriller directed by Neill Blomkamp, set in an alternate Johannesburg where aliens have been stranded on Earth for decades and forced into a segregated slum. When field operative Wikus van de Merwe is exposed to an alien substance and begins transforming, he must ally with the very creatures he once oppressed. The film serves as a powerful allegory for apartheid and xenophobia, blending documentary-style filmmaking with visceral action.
