Synopsis
Elephant (2003), directed by Gus Van Sant, follows several students through an ordinary day at an American high school, building quiet tension before culminating in a devastating act of violence. Inspired loosely by the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, the film deliberately avoids easy explanations or moral judgments. Its meditative pacing, naturalistic performances, and long observational takes create an unsettling intimacy that forces audiences to confront the tragedy without sensationalism.
