Synopsis
Escape from New York is a 1981 action film set in a dystopian future where Manhattan has been turned into a maximum security prison. Why Watch It
Carpenter crafts a grimy, neon-soaked dystopia where Kurt Russell's eyepatch-wearing antihero steals every frame—it's punk rock action cinema with more style than budget and a premise audacious enough to ignore its own logic. The film moves with relentless momentum, delivering inventive set pieces and a synth score that feels like the future imagined by someone living in 1981. Essential viewing for anyone who thinks blockbusters have lost their edge.
