Synopsis

Nightcrawler follows Lou Bloom, a driven and morally unhinged drifter who discovers the cutthroat world of Los Angeles crime journalism. Armed with a camera, he films accidents and violent events to sell to a local news station, growing increasingly dangerous in his pursuit of fame and success. The film is a dark, gripping character study exploring media sensationalism, ambition, and amorality.

Why Watch It
Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a career-best performance as a sociopathic stringer whose descent into moral depravity is exhilarating and deeply unsettling. Gilroy's directorial debut is a neon-soaked thriller that weaponizes ambition itself, turning Los Angeles into a hunting ground where the camera becomes complicit in violence. It's a sharp, propulsive critique of sensationalism that never stops moving.
