Synopsis
REC is a 2007 Spanish found-footage horror film directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, following reporter Ángela and her cameraman as they accompany firefighters on a routine call. The building is suddenly quarantined by authorities outside, trapping everyone inside with increasingly violent and infected residents. The film builds relentless tension through its single-camera perspective, culminating in one of horror cinema's most terrifying endings.
Why Watch It
REC traps you in a claustrophobic Barcelona apartment building where found-footage horror becomes genuinely suffocating—every dark hallway and locked door amplifies the dread. The handheld camera work isn't gimmicky; it's integral to the escalating terror, creating a sense of immediate, inescapable danger that feels alarmingly real. A masterclass in sustained tension that influenced an entire subgenre.
