Synopsis

In 'Straw Dogs' (1971), Dustin Hoffman plays an American mathematician who moves with his English wife to her homeland, rural England. Their peaceful life is disrupted when they become the target of escalating violence and harassment from the local townsfolk.

Why Watch It
Peckinpah transforms a deceptively simple home-invasion setup into a brutal meditation on masculinity and civilized restraint, anchored by Dustin Hoffman's quietly simmering performance as a man pushed toward primal violence. The film's unflinching depiction of rural antagonism and its controversial climax remain genuinely unsettling—a masterclass in mounting dread that refuses easy moral comfort.
