Submarine follows 15-year-old Oliver Tate, a precocious and self-obsessed Welsh teenager determined to lose his virginity to classmate Jordana while simultaneously trying to save his parents' failing marriage. Director Richard Ayoade crafts a visually inventive coming-of-age story brimming with deadpan humor, capturing adolescent awkwardness with both warmth and sharp wit. The film blends French New Wave influences with a distinctly British sensibility, elevated by Alex Turner's intimate acoustic soundtrack.
