Synopsis

The Kids Are All Right follows a same-sex couple, Nic and Jules, whose comfortable suburban life is upended when their teenage children secretly contact their biological sperm donor, Paul. As Paul becomes increasingly involved with the family, unexpected attractions and tensions emerge, testing the strength of Nic and Jules's long-term relationship. The film is a warm yet honest exploration of modern family dynamics, identity, and the messy complexity of love.

Why Watch It
A sharp, emotionally intelligent exploration of modern family dynamics that treats its unconventional setup not as a plot device but as lived reality. Annette Bening and Julianne Moore anchor the film with nuanced performances while Mark Ruffalo brings genuine warmth to the role of the charming sperm donor who disrupts their carefully balanced life. Cholodenko captures the messy humanity of relationships—the way love and resentment, desire and obligation, coexist without neat resolution.
