Synopsis

In Mel Brooks' debut film, washed-up Broadway producer Max Bialystock and nervous accountant Leo Bloom hatch a scheme to oversell shares in a sure-to-fail musical called 'Springtime for Hitler.' Their plan hilariously backfires when the outrageous show becomes an unexpected hit, leading to their comedic downfall. The film is widely regarded as one of the greatest comedies ever made, launching Brooks' legendary filmmaking career.

Why Watch It
Mel Brooks launches his directorial debut with a gleefully anarchic comedy that turns the Broadway machine inside out—Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder spark magnificently as con artists orchestrating the ultimate theatrical disaster. The film's fearless satirical energy, rapid-fire gags, and audacious musical numbers ("Springtime for Hitler") established Brooks as comedy's most boundary-pushing voice.
